Strength Physiotherapy

LUCA BALESTRA CASE STUDY

Pain Free And Avoided Surgery

“Now I can front squat my original goal of body weight for reps to full depth without any pain whatsoever and I look forward to further progressing my squatting strength.

Most importantly now I have a better understanding of how to interpret any aches and pains that I may encounter in the process of training and I have the necessary tools to adjust my own training so that I can work around such problems.

Thanks to this I am much less fearful of hurting myself and much more confident in the strength and resilience of my hips and my body in general.” - Luca Balestra

Luca Balestra, freelance translator came to Strength Physiotherapy after being diagnosed with hip impingement and being told never to squat below parallel. He was even offered surgery, which he declined. After 5 months of working together he’s now able to front squat more than his bodyweight for reps to full depth with no pain at all. He also knows how to manage his own training when aches and pains arise.

Amaar Wahab CASE STUDY

No Hip Pain Whatsoever

“Not only did I find myself falling back in my training, but it also affected me day to day, like even getting in and out of a car became really difficult because of the hip pain.

I decided to go through to Strength Physiotherapy to help out with the problem.

I was a bit hesitant at first with their whole online coaching aspect. I did it because it fit perfectly in my timetable but I wasn't sure how not being there with my coach would work out.

But Alex was tremendous, the work that he did for me was incredible. He wrote me up some amazing programmes that not only helped my lifting technique but also fixed the problem.

Since working with Strength Physiotherapy, I have no hip pain whatsoever, my strength has improved a lot and my technique's also improved by miles.” - Ammaar Wahab

Before coming to see me Ammaar had taken 6 months off of training because of a hip injury. He’d seen the NHS and had an MRI but nothing gave him a long term solution, only temporary fixes. In just 3 months we managed to get him back to full weightlifting training. He recently hit some personal bests squatting 180kg and deadlifting 217.5kg. Well done Ammaar!

Aaron holt CASE STUDY

How a Physio Experience Should Be

“With Alex it was something different, and it certainly threw me the first time because we sat down and he started asking me questions about all sorts of things.

I'd automatically just assumed straight away I had done my cruciate back in again, and that was it - career over for weightlifting. Or the best case scenario, that he'd tell me to stop doing that, stop doing squats or anything, and then slowly introduce them back in.

But it wasn't. The exercises that he prescribed me were completely different. I was always told not to do stuff with an injury whereas now, I was being told to actually do stuff.

So it was a real eye-opener into how a physio experience should be. I'm now back to full fitness. I'm looking to compete again for the British Masters coming up in March, and then the Europeans in June.” - Aaron Holt

Aaron came to see me after hurting his knee and was concerned that he’d need surgery or have to stop weightlifting. We were able to work out how he could continue to do weightlifting, improve his technique, recover from his injury and go back to the sport even stronger. Aaron is now back to full training and will soon be competing on the national and international stage!

Hitting New Highs

“Since joining this program, I've definitely improved my strength, particularly the lower body.

And also, I've been able to manage the inevitable niggles that you get when training regularly. Much better than I had before without compromising on the overall goals of my program.

Having had knee surgery, naturally I lost some of the confidence in myself to be able to perform at the same level as I was before. But through the program, Alex has got me back to those levels and allowed me to push on even further than I could have imagined.

All of this work was done online, majority of the time was whilst I was living abroad in Sydney as well.” - Oli Woolf

Oli came to me looking to improve his football performance having already completed his rehab after an ACL reconstruction surgery. We worked together for a year and improved his strength and power while taking into consideration his previous injuries. He surpassed even his own expectations and is now stronger and fitter than ever!

Andy Johnson CASE STUDY

Pain Free and Stronger

“I was experiencing severe knee pain in my right knee that was inhibiting my weightlifting training and affecting me at work. As a weightlifter, I'm used to small injuries and niggles.

My usual approach would be to take lots of ibuprofen and take a week off of training. But it wasn't working this time. I tried heat therapy and icing my knee, which provided short term relief, but the pain always came back.

Since joining Strength Physiotherapy, I've had no more repeat pain in my knee, and have improved my back strength and snatch technique as an unexpected side benefit, as well as he being my back squat.” - Andy Johnson

Andy came to me with knee pain that was stopping him from weightlifting. When stopping training didn’t work he came to me for a plan. Together we came up with a way for him to continue his weightlifting training whilst completing a rehab programme for his knee. Within 2 months we managed to completely resolve his pain and get him to the point where he was even stronger than before. Shortly after we finished working together he managed to squat a new personal best of 170kg!
